WELCOME TO BETTER TIMES AHEAD! WE ARE SO GLAD YOU ARE HERE.WHO WE TREAT:
Our clients come to us either because they are seeking mental health support for urgent symptom management, such as Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, OCD, Life Transitions, Trauma, Grief and Loss, Relationship and Attachment issues or perhaps they are seeking Insight-Oriented Therapy. Our clients are often the brave cycle breakers, sick and tired of the toxic and unhealthy patterns they are noticing in their lives and relationships.
Let us be your finish line. You made it. You are no longer alone in this struggle. Therapy can be life changing work. You will not believe the positive Butterfly Effect your healing and wellbeing will have on all of your loved ones as well.WHO WE ARE:
We are a 5 Clinician strong Group Counseling Practice offering Individual and Couples' Therapy for Adults. We are Licensed Psychologists and Clinical Mental Health Therapists working towards licensure at the Masters and Doctoral level, eager to start working with you right away.
SERVICES & SPECIALTIES:
We offer in-person Individual and Couples Therapy in our private practice in the Bryn Mawr neighborhood of Minneapolis. Telehealth Sessions are always available as well.
Additionally, we offer ADHD Screening and Evaluation, and ADHD-informed coaching, individual and couples' therapy, because our neuro-spiciness can affect everyone around us, in both extraordinary and challenging ways, of course.Another specialty we offer is treating women in Perimenopause and Menopause, through individual work, workshops, as well as a quarterly education and support group called Second Season Sessions. Reach out to get on our waitlist for next season.OUR APPROACH TO THERAPY:
We are committed to our evidence-based practices, a safe and inclusive culture for ALL to feel affirmed, honored and consistently given the highest level of mental health care.
We employ a combination of our most effective techniques in a thoughtfully customized treatment plan:Psychodynamic Therapy and Attachment Theory to address unhealthy relationship patterns and help you heal from early family of origin struggles that may have shaped your current attachment style. Once understood, you can change these patterns and improve the way you show up in all of your relationships, creating the intentional, loving and safe connections you desire.Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques to challenge unproductive thought patterns and implement more adaptive ones. This is the Gold Standard Treatment for both Depression and Anxiety. These neuroscience backed interventions offer the life changing pause between thought, feeling and behavior that will improve your ability to respond to life's stressors and relationship triggers with a calm nervous system and the emotional intelligence you yearn for.Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to navigate difficult emotions and thoughts by embracing them rather than trying to control or avoid them, while simultaneously committing to actions aligned with your values. This approach to therapy has proven to contribute to a more fulfilling and meaningful life, introducing awareness and ease to your day-to-day challenges. Take the first step!ABOUT DR TALIA:
Over the last 19 years in the field, I have developed expertise in a variety of clinical settings. I received my MA and PsyD from the American Schools of Professional Psychology in the San Francisco Bay Area. While pursuing my Doctorate, my clinical training was intense, varied and shaped how I see the impact of this powerful work we do together.
I was trained in Time Limited Dynamic Therapy, and worked with clients battling HIV and AIDS at the AIDS Health Project at UCSF. I fell in love with working with bright and motivated young adults in University Counseling Centers such as Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA and University of San Francisco. In 2005 I returned to my hometown of Minneapolis, MN to complete my licensure as a Psychologist through my Post-Doctoral Fellowships at Augsburg Counseling Center. To deepen my intensive Psychodynamic training, I worked as a Community Mental Health therapist for two years in the Hamm Clinic in St Paul. This is when I branched out into my first Group Private Practice experience at The River City Clinic, where I was hired by my now Podcast Co-Host and best friend and colleague Doug Jensen, LICSW!

WE'RE NOT FINE, THE PODCAST WHERE MENTAL HEALTH MEETS RELATIONSHIPS.

In 2022, my dear friend, colleague and mentor Doug Jensen, LICSW asked me if I wanted to start a podcast with him. He had hired me to be a therapist in his group private practice, the River City Clinic, 20 years ago, and we have been closely connected ever since, so... of course I said yes!We are both incredibly passionate about making conversations about relationships and mental health accessible to everyone. With a combined 50 years of clinical experience and 20 years of a very special connection, we drop new episodes every Tuesday. We have several formats; guest experts, guests sharing personal stories of mental health and relationship struggles, psycho-education, self-development and couples' therapy recommendations, Mail Bag episodes, and LIVE recorded episodes with amazing guests at the Rogue Buddha Gallery in NE Minneapolis. Check out our episodes here!

CURIOUS ABOUT THE ILLUSTRIOUS ENNEAGRAM PERSONALITY PROFILING SYSTEM?Our Enneagram Workshop at @yogagardenmpls was a blast! The Enneagram is a framework of understanding personality structures rooted in both nature and nurture. It is a gateway to self-awareness and an understanding of others that opens up a path for us to experience a more integrated and rewarding life.
Knowing our Enneagram Type helps us uncover our unique drivers, motivators, fears and unmet childhood messages, which brings into sharp, clear focus nine different ways of looking at the world.
It allows us to see how each worldview impacts the way we bring our unique thoughts, feelings, an behaviors to any situation. Even beyond behavior, the Enneagram delves into the often-secret, unconscious, or underlying motivations that give us a look at 'why' people do what they do.The Enneagram emphasizes that we are all different and have different motivators. And to discover what motivates us, it is crucial to find the right balance between extrinsic and intrinsic motivators so we can motivate and energize ourselves (and others) successfully. These one-word descriptors can be expanded into four-word sets of traits. Keep in mind that these are merely highlights and do not represent the full spectrum of each type.Type #1 is principled, purposeful, self-controlled, and perfectionistic.
Type #2 is generous, demonstrative, people-pleasing, and possessive.
Type #3 is adaptable, excelling, driven, and image-conscious.
Type #4 is expressive, dramatic, self-absorbed, and temperamental.
Type #5 is perceptive, innovative, secretive, and isolated.
Type #6 is engaging, responsible, anxious, and suspicious.
Type #7 is spontaneous, versatile, acquisitive, and scattered.
Type #8 is self-confident, decisive, willful, and confrontational.
Type #9 is receptive, reassuring, complacent, and resigned
Join Dr. Talia Jackson, Licensed Psychologist and Clinical Mental Health Interns Beth Fraley, LADC and Mary Zarling, to learn how your enneagram type unveils your unique, intrinsic motivators to help stay on track!

THE MIND-BODY CONNECTIONMental health issues, depression, anxiety, and trauma can manifest physically and show up in the body.Research shows that those diagnosed with autoimmune disorders, chronic pain and fatigue often have a history of trauma. Our emotional lives and physical wellness are intertwined in our chronic stress, our burn out, grief and loss of a loved one, and in the loss of our functioning and identity as an athlete, as able bodied, as youthful.Therapy can help those of us with physical illness, chronic pain, and disabilities by encouraging us to trust our inner knowing of our symptoms with confidence, helping learn language around self-advocacy in the health care system and helping to create an empowered narrative. What can we do? What can we control? Learning mindfulness techniques and coping strategies can “right size” our experiences of pain and discomfort.
