Hello!

ABOUT DR TALIA

WELCOME TO MY GROUP PRACTICE!
Over the last 20 years in the field, I have developed expertise in a variety of clinical settings. I received my MA and PsyD from the American Schools of Professional Psychology in the San Francisco Bay Area. While pursuing my Doctorate, my clinical training was intense, varied and shaped how I see the impact of this powerful work we do together.
I was trained in Hannah Levenson's Time Limited Dynamic Therapy, as I worked with the bravest clients battling HIV and AIDS at the AIDS Health Project at UCSF, at a time when this diagnosis was a death sentence.I then fell in love with working with bright and motivated young adults in University Counseling Centers such as Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA and University of San Francisco. Many were experiencing the first pains and uncertainty of overwhelming anxiety, depression, grief and loss, unmanageable symptoms of ADHD executive dysfunction, all while trying to be successful in school and prepare for their beautiful future. In 2005, freshly graduated and newly married, I returned to my hometown of Minneapolis, MN to complete my licensure as a Psychologist. My Post-Doctoral Internship at Augsburg Counseling Center brought me right back to my love of University Counseling. And to deepen my intensive Psychodynamic training, I worked as a Community Mental Health therapist for two years at the Hamm Clinic in St Paul. This is also when I branched out into my first Group Private Practice experience at The River City Clinic, where I was hired by my now Podcast Co-Host and best friend and colleague Doug Jensen, LICSW!Licensed in 2006, I founded my own private practice in Minneapolis, and never turned back! We had two amazing sons, now both teenagers, rescued a few pugs, and here we are!A year ago, I decided to become a Clinical Supervisor of two fantastic students from Adler Graduate School, developed a training program, and recently took on two more Doctoral Level students from Augsburg College, full circle!I am so fulfilled in this next professional chapter; supporting and training the next generation of gifted and compassionate therapists. Trust me when I say this work we do together is powerful and can even be life-changing if you choose to make it so.You made it this far. Professional insight and customized skill building for better mental health and relationships are likely the missing pieces you have been seeking to truly loving yourself and your life.Let us partner with you for lasting wellbeing.

WE'RE NOT FINE, THE PODCAST WHERE MENTAL HEALTH MEETS RELATIONSHIPS.

In 2022, my dear friend, colleague and mentor Doug Jensen, LICSW asked me if I wanted to start a podcast with him. He had hired me to be a therapist in his group private practice, the River City Clinic, 20 years ago, and we have been closely connected ever since, so... of course I said yes!We are both incredibly passionate about making conversations about relationships and mental health accessible to everyone. With a combined 50 years of clinical experience and 20 years of a very special connection, we drop new episodes every Tuesday. We have several formats; guest experts, guests sharing personal stories of mental health and relationship struggles, psycho-education, self-development and couples' therapy recommendations, Mail Bag episodes, and LIVE recorded episodes with amazing guests at the Rogue Buddha Gallery in NE Minneapolis. Check out our episodes here!

EVENTS, GROUPS & WORKSHOPS

WHY YES, WE WOULD LOVE TO DO A LUNCH N' LEARN & FACILITATE AMAZING CONVERSATIONS FOR YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS, CO-WORKERS AND PRACTICE-MATES!

TOPICS INCLUDE:

THE ENNEAGRAM

A one-of-a-kind eerily accurate Personality Profiling System that unlocks your wiring, your nature, your core fears & drivers. Learn what your healthiest and unhealthiest self looks like. Learn how your type works with your partner's type, your boss, your mother...

We offer in-depth, fun and humorous education and support around perimenopause, menopause, and the many effects it has on women of a certain age; mind, body, soul, and relationships.

THE MIND-BODY CONNECTION

For our Integrative and Physical Wellness focused Friends and Providers. THE MIND BODY CONNECTION is a crucial relationship to understand if you or your clients struggle with chronic pain, illness, injury, disabilities, visible or invisible. Learn how mental and physical wellness or illness can perpetuate its own unique cycles, and how changing a thinking pattern, biohacking your nervous system with a few simple tricks, or starting one healthier habit can have an immeasurable healing effects.Mental health issues, depression, anxiety, and trauma can manifest physically and show up in the body.Research shows that those diagnosed with autoimmune disorders, chronic pain and fatigue often have a history of trauma. Our emotional lives and physical wellness are intertwined in our chronic stress, our burn out, grief and loss of a loved one, and in the loss of our functioning and identity as an athlete, as able bodied, as youthful.Therapy can help those of us with physical illness, chronic pain, and disabilities by encouraging us to trust our inner knowing of our symptoms with confidence, helping learn language around self-advocacy in the health care system and helping to create an empowered narrative. What can we do? What can we control? Learning mindfulness techniques and coping strategies can “right size” our experiences of pain and discomfort.

CURIOUS ABOUT THE ILLUSTRIOUS ENNEAGRAM PERSONALITY PROFILING SYSTEM??I THOUGHT YOU'D NEVER ASK!

Our Enneagram Workshop at @yogagardenmpls was a blast! The Enneagram is a framework of understanding personality structures rooted in both nature and nurture. It is a gateway to self-awareness and an understanding of others that opens up a path for us to experience a more integrated and rewarding life.
Knowing our Enneagram Type helps us uncover our unique drivers, motivators, fears and unmet childhood messages, which brings into sharp, clear focus nine different ways of looking at the world.
It allows us to see how each worldview impacts the way we bring our unique thoughts, feelings, an behaviors to any situation. Even beyond behavior, the Enneagram delves into the often-secret, unconscious, or underlying motivations that give us a look at 'why' people do what they do.The Enneagram emphasizes that we are all different and have different motivators. And to discover what motivates us, it is crucial to find the right balance between extrinsic and intrinsic motivators so we can motivate and energize ourselves (and others) successfully.

These one-word Type Descriptors can be expanded into four-word sets of traits. Keep in mind that these are merely highlights and do not represent the full spectrum of each type.which type best represents you?

Type #1 THE REFORMER/THE JUDGE is principled, purposeful, self-controlled, and perfectionistic.
Type #2 THE HELPER is generous, demonstrative, people-pleasing, and possessive.
Type #3 THE ACHIEVER is adaptable, excelling, driven, and image-conscious.
Type #4 THE INDIVIDUALIST/THE ROMANTIC is expressive, dramatic, self-absorbed, and temperamental.
Type #5 THE OBSERVER/THE EXPERT is perceptive, innovative, secretive, and isolated.
Type #6 THE LOYALIST/THE TROOPER is engaging, responsible, anxious, and suspicious.
Type #7 THE ENTHUSIAST/THE EPICURE is spontaneous, versatile, acquisitive, and scattered.
